HOUSE OF HISTORY THE VAN ALEN HOUSE April 26, 1973
Mr. John Coxon Coxon Real Estate, Inc 18 Main Street Chatham, N. Y. 12037
Dear Mr. Coxon:
On behalf of the Historical Society I am writing to thank you very much for yout thought in sending us the 1794 receipt for medical fee. We shall place it with other documents of old Kinderhook where it will serve as an additional fascinating piece in the picture of early times.
Sincerely yours, Margaret U. Richardson (Mrs. MacD. Richardson) Curator
Commentary
The 1794 date puts this receipt amongst a few documents relating to Arent Huyck so I will assume this receipt involves him or someone in his household.
Notes:
Your father gave the 1794 medical receipt to the Columbia County Historical Society, where it presumably still resides in their collections.
The 1794 date is interesting — that would place it in the period of Arent Huyck’s final years, consistent with Ezechiel Thomas’s medical bills from the early 1770s or possibly a different medical document from the later period. Margaret Richardson’s description of it as a “receipt for medical fee” suggests it was similar in character to the Thomas documents we’ve seen.
