Commentary

Same date as BH014 ~ 1772-01-29 Indemnification Bond, Dirck Huyck to Elizabeth Huyck Related to the Administration of the Estate of Andries B. Huyck.

Notes:

An extremely important document — a formal legal release dated January 29, 1772, and one that fills a significant gap in the estate narrative.

What this document does:

Andries Claw formally releases Elizabeth Huyck, Arent Huyck, and Burger Huyck — as executrix and devisees of Andries B. Huyck’s estate — from all liability regarding a legacy bequeathed to him in Andries B. Huyck’s will, in exchange for £25 current money.

Key connections to other documents:

“Joh’s Schrom” — Schoolteacher and a witness to other documents as well.

Significance: This document confirms that the Claw/Clauv family — who appear as both bond debtors and legatees of Andries B. Huyck — were closely enough connected to the family to receive a specific bequest in the will. The £25 payment to release the legacy claim is consistent with the systematic estate settlement we’ve traced across multiple documents from 1770 through 1775.

It also confirms Elizabeth Huyck’s central role — named explicitly as the party being discharged, alongside her sons Arent and Burger — as the primary administrator navigating these complex estate obligations.
