Commentary
The Andries Huyck note looks like the middle initial is an "L", not a "J" as I've been assuming the carpenter on this construction was. Andries L. Huyck is Burger Senior's brother Lambert's son (b. 1709). Andries J. Huyck is Jacobus' brother, Johannis' son (b. about 1740) making him a 30 year old carpenter, whereas Andries L. Huyck would be about 60. Perhaps they both had roles in the construction projects about the farm.
Notes on Obverse:
- A working calculation page — the crossed-out upper section connects to the previous nail-lending memorandum, with Johannis Valkenburgh and Andries Huyck both named before being struck through, suggesting the accounts were resolved or transferred.
- The page is essentially a scratch calculation surface — Elizabeth or someone working through arithmetic before entering final figures in the account book. These working pages are valuable for understanding the bookkeeping process even when the individual calculations are difficult to follow.
Notes on Reverse:
- This is entirely a working arithmetic page — two columns of figures being added, subtracted, and compared, with no text or names to translate.
