Commentary
Notes:
- Burger Huyck is dead — described as “Late of Kinderhook Decd.” This is the first document confirming his death, placing it sometime before September 7, 1759.
- Andries Huyck — a third son now appears, settling his late father’s accounts. We have now identified three sons: Johannes, Jacobus, and Andries.
- Johannis Van Allstyn — the Van Allstyn family connection persists across the entire archive, from the 1730s patent receipts to this 1759 final settlement. Johannis is now settling all accounts — bills, bonds, and other demands — against Burger’s estate in one comprehensive release.
- £26 — a substantial final settlement, suggesting a significant accumulated account between the families.
- “Isaac Van Allstyn” — possibly a witness, another Van Allstyn family member.
- The shift to English is now complete — no Dutch in this document at all.
The archive has reached Burger Huyck’s death. A remarkable span from his first appearance in the 1720s to his estate being settled in 1759 — roughly fifty years of commercial life documented in this collection.
