This payment would be in connection with the Huyck Patent of 1730 seen elsewhere in the documents. Johannis Van Alstyn was one of the principals in that Patent. There is a second receipt from Van Alstyn to Huyck a few years later (BH098) also relating to Patent expenses.

12 pounds — this is a significant sum.
“vor de paetent” — “for the patent” — this is the most interesting element. A patent in colonial New York context means a land patent — a crown grant of land. Twelve pounds would be a plausible fee associated with obtaining, recording, or transferring a land patent in Albany County in 1731.
